The right CV format for where you are applying
9 regional formats
Resume rules change by country. A Gulf CV is expected to show a photo, nationality and visa status. A US resume must not include any of them. Dossier sets the paper size, length, headings and personal details for the region you choose, so you don't find out after you apply.
United States and global
No photo and no personal details. US employers may discard a resume with a photo to avoid discrimination claims.
UK and Ireland
No photo. Two pages is the norm, with a short personal statement at the top and references “available on request”.
Canada and Australia
Two to three pages. Australian employers expect international applicants to state visa status or relocation plans up front.
Europe
Photo, date of birth and nationality are accepted and optional, and a short interests section is expected. This is the European convention, not the official Europass form.
Germany, Austria and Switzerland
A Lebenslauf with a photo, which employers expect, and education listed before work history.
Gulf and Middle East
For the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman: two to four pages, with photo, nationality and visa status, and whether you can get a No Objection Certificate.
India
CV and resume mean the same thing here. Two to three pages is normal; photo and date of birth are common but never required.
Asia (photo CV)
Japan, China and much of South-East Asia expect a photo and basic personal details.
Latin America
Photo, date of birth, nationality and marital status are common on a Brazilian or Spanish-American CV, and all optional. One to two pages.

In the United States and Canada, a resume is a short summary of your experience for a specific job, usually one or two pages, and a CV (curriculum vitae) is a longer record used for academic, research and medical posts.
